Gabon WoodShow 2019 garners millions of dollars-worth deals and accolades

The 2nd edition of Gabon WoodShow had a successful run from June 24 to 26 at Jardin Botanique, Libreville, Gabon. This year’s edition had 70 exhibitors from the wood and forestry machinery sectors that participated from 38+ countries and the show attracted 2,728+ high quality visitors.
Gabon WoodShow was inaugurated on 24th June, 2019 at the august hands of H. E. Julien Nkoghe Bekale, Prime Minister of Gabon, accompanied by Mr. Lee White, Minister of the Forest, the Sea, the Environment and In-Charge of the Climate Plan alongwith other high-level dignitaries.
The 3-day event had 70 exhibitors encompassing a range of equipment manufacturers and service-oriented companies. The exhibitors profile included manufacturers of forestry machines, trucks, timber transport and other vehicles, cropping and harvesting machines, saw millers, hardwood and softwood flooring, plywood, veneer, MDF, laminates and boards woodworking machinery and tools, wood suppliers, associations and governmental as well as non-governmental entities, international departments and institutions, certification bodies, educational, training and consulting institutions, finishing and fittings suppliers, furniture manufacturers, paints, adhesives and glues manufacturers, software providers, trade publishers, specialized literature start-ups, exporters and importers etc.
The exhibition was attended by 2,728 visitors over three days. The top five visiting categories included saw millers, plywood and particle-board manufacturers and traders, construction companies, forestry officials and furniture manufacturers.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organisation established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forest, organised a workshop for business owners on the procedures of obtaining forest certification on the second day of Gabon WoodShow.
The FSC Regional Office for Africa conducted the workshop on June 25 in line
with Ali Bongo Odingo, President of the Republic of Gabon, who announced that logging concessions in Gabon will have to be certified according to FSC standards by 2020.
The workshop conducted in two sessions covered topics such as – what is forest certification, what is FSC, what do the FSC certification standards contain, what is the procedure for obtaining an FSC certificate, what are the benefits of FSC certification for Gabonese populations etc. The technical support opportunities of companies committed to FSC Certification for Presentation of Certified Forest Operations Promotion Programme were discussed during this workshop.
Gabon WoodShow 2020
As the regions’ only dedicated tradeshow, the Gabon WoodShow provides a unique platform for companies in the wood, woodworking machinery and forestry sectors to tap Gabon’s forest resources effectively and take advantage of the ongoing infrastructure building boom in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).
This trade fair offers a chance to meet wood, woodworking machinery and forestry professionals to develop ideas and increase the range and quality of their businesses, learn new techniques and sources of supply. It has a quest to be the prestigious podium of creative ideas and new technologies that will grab the attention of wood manufacturers and traders who look for lucrative transactions.
Building on the success of the 2nd edition, where business deals worth millions of dollars were closed, the Strategic alongwith GSEZ look forward to the 3rd edition of Gabon WoodShow from June 25- 27, 2020, which promises to be bigger and better. Gabon WoodShow has already positioned itself as the best and dynamic platform in the CEMAC region.
